Echoes of Her (Hänen kaikunsa) on kolmen teoksen sarja, joka nostaa esiin näkymättömiä rooleja. Se tarkastelee sitä, miten niistä irrottautuminen voi tapahtua myös hiljaisuudessa ilman suurta kapinaa tai ristiriitojen näkyväksi tekemistä.

Teokset saivat alkunsa tarpeesta ymmärtää niitä tarinoita, joita kannamme mukanamme. Osa niistä on perittyjä, osa omien kokemusten muovaamia, ja monet niistä jäävät sanomatta ääneen. Sarjassa tarkastelen sitä, mitä jää pinnan alle: sukupolvien vaikutusta, selviytymisen synnyttämää voimaa sekä tarvetta tulla nähdyksi omana itsenään.

Hiljaisuus on sarjan keskeinen teema. Ulkopuolinen voi tulkita hiljaisuuden poissaoloksi, passiivisuudeksi tai alistumiseksi. Minulle hiljaisuus merkitsee vahvuutta, ikiaikaista viisautta, pohdintaa ja tarinoita, joille ei aina löydy sanoja. Se, mikä näyttää ulospäin tyyneltä, voi sisällään kantaa kokonaisen maailman.

Näiden teosten tekeminen auttoi minua löytämään visuaalisen kielen kokemuksille, joita oli vaikea ilmaista sanoin. Sarja kuvaa matkaa perityistä tarinoista kohti oman itsen ymmärtämistä ja roolien pudottamista, sekä lopulta yhteyttä toisiin ihmisiin roolien takana. Se kertoo siitä, kuinka merkityksellistä on löytää ihmisiä, jotka näkevät pinnan alle ja tunnistavat sen, mikä on ollut siellä koko ajan.

I. Naiset ennen minua

Perintöni kahleet ovat raskaat.
Kannan niitä, kuten kaikki minua edeltäneet naiset.
Vaikka näytän vapaalta, esiäitieni katseen alla nöyrryn.
Olen vahva, sillä olen äitini tytär.

II. Hiljaisuus sisälläni

Vaikka vaikutan tyyneltä ja hiljaiselta, tyyneyteni kantaa tarinaa.
Olen kantanut paljon, ja siitä olen saanut voimani.
Hiljaisuuteni puhuu siellä, missä sanoja ei tarvita.

III. He vierelläni

Olen löytänyt omat ihmiseni.
Ne, jotka näkevät minut sellaisena kuin todella olen.
He näkevät hiljaisuuden taakse.
He ojentavat kätensä ja kulkevat rinnallani.

ECHOES OF HER
(Hänen kaikunsa)

Echoes of Her is a series of three works that brings attention to the invisible roles we carry. It explores how liberation from these roles can take place in silence, without grand rebellion or the need to make conflicts visible.

The works emerged from a need to understand the stories we carry within us. Some are inherited, some are shaped by personal experience, and many remain unspoken. Through this series, I explore what lies beneath the surface: the influence of previous generations, the strength born of endurance, and the desire to be seen as one’s true self.

Silence is a central theme throughout the series. It is often interpreted as absence, passivity, or submission. For me, silence represents strength, ancient wisdom, reflection, and stories that cannot always be expressed in words. What appears calm on the surface may hold an entire world within.

Creating these works helped me find a visual language for experiences that were difficult to express verbally. The series traces a journey from inherited narratives toward self-understanding and the shedding of imposed roles, and ultimately toward connection with others beyond those roles. It speaks of the profound importance of finding people who see beneath the surface and recognize what has been there all along.

I. The women before me

The chains of my heritage are heavy.
I bear them, as did all the women before me.
Though I seem free, beneath the gaze of my ancestors, I am not.
Yet I am strong, for I am my mother’s daughter.

II. The silence within

Though I appear calm and silent, my stillness carries a story.
I have borne much, and from it I have drawn my strength.
My silence speaks where words are not needed.

III. The ones beside me

I have found my people.
Those who see me as I truly am.
They see beyond the stillness.
They offer their hands and walk beside me.
